Das ‚House of Galleries‘ ist der pointierte Jahresauftakt für zeitgenössische Kunst vom 24. bis 26. Januar 2025 in Frankfurt am Main. 29 Galerien quartieren sich in den ehemaligen Vorstandsetagen im 43. und 44. Stock des Trianon-Hochhauses ein. Damit erhält der Kunststandort Frankfurt nach vielen Jahren wieder ein überregionales Format, das Galerien aus der Stadt sowie von außerhalb zusammenführt.

Stefan Wielands “Lampen” sind Bühnenbilder, dramaturgische Episoden aus bunten Acrylglasscheiben, die, sobald sie von elektrischem Licht dazu ermutigt werden, ihr physisches Dasein als Alltagsgegenstand in Frage stellen. Man ist mit der Funktion von Lampen als gewöhnliche Artefakte vertraut. Ob gut oder schlecht entworfen, sie beleuchten ihre unmittelbare Umgebung und machen Dinge sichtbar, sobald das Tageslicht schwindet. Wieland’s “Lampen” dagegen sind in diesem Kontext nicht zu finden. Sie beleuchten lediglich ihren eigenen rätselvollen Auftritt. Es gibt nur ihre hermetische Existenz. Sie machen sich das Schauspiel, das sie inszenieren, zu Eigen und definieren somit selbst Ihren Kontext und ihre Bedeutung.

Stefan Wieland (*1970) lebt und arbeitet in Frankfurt am Main. Von 1994 bis 1999 studierte er an der HfBK Städelschule und ist ein Meisterschüler von Prof. Thomas Bayrle. Er war ein Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes und hat den Paul-Strecker-Preis für Malerei erhalten. Seine Arbeiten sind u.a. Teil der DekaBank Kunstsammlung, der Sammlung Deutsche Bank, des Hessischen Ministeriums der Finanzen, der Städtischen Kunstsammlung Frankfurt am Main und zahlreicher privater Sammlungen.

The 'House of Galleries' will be the trenchant start to the year for contemporary art from January 24 to 26 in Frankfurt am Main. 29 galleries from Frankfurt and all over Germany will take up residence in the former boardrooms on the 43rd and 44th floors of the Trianon high-rise. After many years, Frankfurt as an art location is thus once again receiving a long-awaited supra-regional format that brings together leading galleries from the city and beyond.

Stefan Wieland’s “lamps” are theatrical sets, dramaturgical episodes made of coloured, acrylic sheets that with electric light at once embolden and question themselves as everyday objects with a physical presence. As common artefacts, lamps come with the familiarity of function. Well designed or not, they shine on their immediate surrounding and make things visible when daylight wanes. Wieland’s “lamps”, on the other hand, give little to their context; they only illuminate their own enigmatic presence. Their hermitic existence is all there is; they internalise the drama that they stage and therefore context and meaning - something substantiated by the strange titles Wieland bestows on his creations.

Stefan Wieland (*1970) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main. From 1994 to 1999 he studied at the HfBK Städelschule and is a master student of Prof. Thomas Bayrle. He was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and received the Paul Strecker Prize for Painting. His works are part of the DekaBank Art Collection, the Deutsche Bank Collection, the Hessian Ministry of Finance, the Frankfurt am Main Municipal Art Collection and numerous private collections.
